Book Progress Report 1

The serious work on Volume 2 of “Making Generative Music With Voltage Modular” has begun. Since publishing Volume 1 in March 2024 I´ve been collecting ideas and thoughts concerning Volume 2.

Of course I´ve always known what I´m going to write about, and what kind of patches and patching techniques I will discuss in the new Volume. After all, it´s the second Volume of a trilogy – even of the second trilogy – about the matter of generative music that I´ve written. So, let me call it, the general layout of topics is clear to me.

But music is art, and generative music is a rather special creature, like all “special creatures” - and all kinds of real art – generative music is alive, develops, moves in different directions, and at the same time more often than not.

And so, on my long walks through the nature that surrounds my hometown, a lot of ideas came to me, a lot of thoughts had to be rethought.

Well, all in all I took 84 notes (I always carry a pencil and a little paper notebook with me),

which I´ve started to go through again now, and to sort and organize in chapters and sub-chapters. 84 notes – additionally to the topics I´ve always known that I would put in Volume 2 – organized in 5 main chapters and 9 sub-chapters – so far!

I try to put some small “notes of progress” here on my website every 1 or 2 weeks.
